Lido Key
Lido Key brings a unique blend of beachside beauty and cosmopolitan allure, all just a hop, skip, and a jump away from downtown Sarasota. This barrier island is home to gorgeous white-sand beaches, eye-catching architecture, the lavish retail hub of St. Armands Circle, Mote Marine Aquarium, an array of luxurious gulf-front resorts, and enchanting natural beauty.
Much of Lido Key was first shaped by circus impresario John Ringling in the 1920s. Ringling’s design and planning included the shopping circle of St. Armands with streets that radiate towards the beach and residential neighborhoods, including the Lido Shores neighborhood and the town of Longboat Key. Ringling’s legacy continues to shine today, with St. Armands being the present home of more than 130 stores and restaurants. The area showcases an Italian statuary, as well, with many pieces originally belonging to Ringling’s personal collection.
